it crashes on a server when i speak on the server in chat

on a server, i tried saying something in the chat, minecraft crashed, i tried multiple times still no result, then to be sure i tried another server. That server had once again failed me. the just to be 100% sure a tried a server, luckly it had worked but sadly the server was one upgrade down. This bug has only recently occurred, maybe a glitch in server files but i would check it out just in case.
