Minecraft Realm Lost Progress

My Realm lost 9 hours of progress, unbeknownst to us but at around 3 pm the realm stopped making save back ups for whatever reason. Later this night at about 1 am  on of the members hops on and sees that they were at the place the were hours prior. My friends and I have been playing on the Realm for a week or so now and have never encountered this before. When going through the back ups none were saved since 3 pm. This continued for a bit, then about 20 minutes backups started being made again but they were of the last point from the 3 pm save. Effectively losing 9 hours of time. Is there a way to get back the save of the progress we lost and a way of preventing this from occuring again?
