Warden can't reach me with its melee attack even though I am only 2 blocks high

I remember the Warden being able to reach 4 blocks high with its melee, then it got its ranged attack and now it doesn't. With the mob being so tall this doesn't make sense, and plus its melee is a lot stronger than the ranged so it is now easier to kill it with melee attacks. Not sure if this is intended.
