Cannot send chats or use commands

What I expected to happen was...:
I expected to be able to normally type in chat in multiplayer, commands and regular chat.

What actually happened was...:
It lets me type but not send. the enter button makes it seem like it sent but nothing happens.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. enter chat mode

2. type in a command or regular chat

3. press enter

4. nothing happens
