Signs turned blank

In my Minecraft realm, all signs I placed in the past couple weeks turned blank and any new sign I place shows only a blank sign regardless of what I type on it. This is true in my online Realm hosted by Minecraft and continues to be true when testing the matter on a copy downloaded to my computer (Java version).
