No chat output for /locate, /data get, etc.

I get no output from a command such as /locate or /data get.

I found a youtube video that said to enable two chat options in microsoft xbox security or privacy settings and that fixed general chat. I've also set the options->chat to "shown". Nevertheless, I get nothing after using /locate or /data get.
