Can't connect to my realm at the same time as my friend

Ever since I got realms, I made a world and neither me or my friend could join at the same time or it would kick him out of the world. He could play by himself with no issue and the same for me. I've tried checking internet connections, MC versions/updates, restarting the PC. He even logged out and back in. Nothing has changed.
