Transparent block above me on render distance 2

What I expected to happen was...:
For the block to be opaque

What actually happened was...:
Even though it was diorite the block still was fully transparent

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a 1x1 hole digging straight upwards from a cave, have diorite one block above you on 2 chunk render distance
