cant load/update old 1.18 snapshots to 1.18?

I found a great seed/mountain that i have ideas for a huge project on but i cant seem to load the world in 1.18? it just said "incompatible version" but im SURE in older releases you could load snapshots to update them. i was just wondering if this would be a thing that will be fixed and if so when
