Dripstone not being waterlogged by flowing water

What I expected to happen was...:
Dripstone[stalagmite]to be waterlogged by flowing water

What actually happened was...:
Dripstone acts as a full block which wouldn't let the water through 

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Locate biome  a dripstone cave
2. Search for pockets of water near stalagmites
3. Search for places where water & stalagmites meet
