increased number of game crashes

Games been crashing way more since I got the windows version rather than the launcher from mincecraft.net, first 2 times it crashed with exit code: 0 and didnt give a crash report, the third crash just happened and it put this 
The game crashed whilst feature placement
Error: java.lang.NullPointerException: Cannot invoke "ddm.a(cao, cps, java.util.Random, gh)" because the return value of "java.util.function.Supplier.get()" is null
Exit Code: -1
googling the error gave no results as well as checking this forum.
