Can't Smelt blocks of Ore Xbox 360

I've been trying everything. I'm very new to the game but I am not able to smelt Blocks of ore. I've been trying to use coal and wood planks which are working for other things but not the blocks. I added 2 comments to other reports before adding this thread so I guess disregard those. They were on old resolved problems but the same as mine.

I added both versions in the box above because I don't know what version number this is
