Block Placement Bug

I was creating a map in creative, and I was using fences and accidently clicked on the fence holding a wooden block and placed it inside of me, (as i was standing next to the fence). I tested this in survival and I started to suffocate.

*What I expected to happen was that the block would not be placed as i was standing in that square.

*What actually happened was that I placed the block inside of me.

*Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place two fences up in front of you.
2. Enclose yourself in wooden planks.
3. Face the fence and right click while holding a block.
