Unable to start Minecraft on win 8 system

What I expected to happen was...:
I expected the gameto launch

What actually happened was...:
The launcher does not launch the game

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Downloaded minecraft from minecraft.net
2. Ran minecraft.exe
3. Logged in and hit Play
4. Error is produced - seems something about opengl
