Something has gone terribly wrong. You have encountered a bug

Having just purchased Minecraft Java and installed the launcher as per the steps. Imagine my frustration at having to watch my daughters disappointment at then not being able to access or use said Java version as we cannot access it as upon attempting to, we're informed that "Something has gone terribly wrong...encountered a bug."

Not only is this the case for us, but upon attempting to report this issue in the hopes there's a quick fix to avoid further disappointment, we find we're not the only ones experiencing this issue. There are multiple reports and yet, many hours later, here we are, without a resolution. Please fix asap. Really unfair to have kids purchasing this for it not even to load. Awful
