Maps become blank when upgrading to 1.17

One of my saves was in 1.16.5. I upgraded to 1.17, but I noticed that my massive map wall was blank. You can still interact with the maps as if they were there (you can hear them turning), but nothing is there. I tried making a new map from scratch, but it came out blank as well. I converted back to 1.16.5 to see if that fixed it, but it did not. All of this is in creative mode.
