FPS drop after shearing pumpkins

In my single player world when I go to shear pumpkins and break them, the FPS drops. The more pumpkins I break after that the less FPS I get until I get to 1 and when I press escape it increases. Then if I try saving it gets stuck until I manually have to close the game.
