Nether Portals do not cause block updates when lit.

If an observer is placed where a "nether portal" block will appear when the portal is lit, then the observer will not give off a redstone pulse, however, when the portal is destroyed by water from a dispenser, it works as normal, and the observer gives off a redstone pulse.
