No Stronghold

I followed an eye of ender, and found exactly where it said the stronghold was. well there was nothing there, so I started digging around, and like after 10 minutes, I found a cave system, which I. tought would expose the stronghold. but still nothing. after more digging there was absolutely no structure at all.
