Recieved invalid biome id: -1

When I try to join my vanilla multiplayer server, my game output log shows hundreds of "warn" errors per second that all say "Received invalid biome id: -1". Every few seconds I get a huge FPS lag spike that makes the game unplayable.

 

 

If I play on the server and then on singleplayer, the lag spikes persist.

If I play on singleplayer without playing multiplayer, the issue is no there.

None of my friends on this server are experiencing lag spikes.
