Flowing water at the base of a nether portal causes you to go through without touching the actual portal blocks

If a player is adjacent to an obsidian next to a portal block like this, and is pushed by water like this, the player is somehow teleported through the water. I figured this out when I was playing on a server and this happened and the server crashed; though I cannot replicate that happening as while testing this on a local server it did not crash it.
