Fall Damage Cap

I was testing how high can you fall without dying by using Enchanted Golden Apples and Turtle Master Potions; it came to my attention that I was losing only 6 Absorption Hearts. I believe there is some sort of damage cap for fall damage. (I survived a fall from 100,000 blocks with full health and 2 absorption hearts left).
I took some pictures of me falling from 3000 blocks and losing only 6 absorption hearts.
