When going to y level under -64 the gui goes dark and you can't see anything

What I expected to happen was...:
to see the gui in its normal colors and the blocks

What actually happened was...:
I couldn't see anything and the entire gui got dark

Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to y level under -64
2. that's it
