Desynced water with buckets

This is my first bug report, so it is possible it has errors in it. I was just playing on a server, and i realized i need to go get some water. I go to a nearby pond, that also is somewhat an generated infinite water source. I wanted to grab it, however i accidentally slipped my mouse at an unbelivable speed, and look at another water block. It could not fill, however later I filled it with a water bucket and everything was back to normal. Any ideas what happaned?
