Sugarcane does not break when a block is used to remove the water.

When you place a block in the water that allows sugarcane to grow, the sugarcane is not broken as you might expect it to be,  Not a big issue, just a little strange.  It also has nothing to do with the mods I am using because I tried it out in vanilla too.
