When I send a message in chat, I crash.

I signed in on my server, and try to chat but when I chat, I get disconnected and crash, then the "Would you like to report to Mojang" screen comes up, I tried a few times on different servers before sending in my report. Also, not sure if this belongs here, while in a boat (on Survival as far as I know) your hunger or food bar does not show up.
