Can't plant after accessing inventory.

When I first launch the game I can plant, but after I've accessed my inventory I can't anymore. I can still place blocks. I tried various keys on my laptop to see if it was a hardware issue on my end but everything seems to be in working order. I've also tried exiting out and going back in and the issue remained.
