Cannot get out of boats

It's the most recent version of Minecraft downloaded it this week Jan 2021. I was able to get in and out of boats but since disconnecting in one I can no longer get out, the only way to do this is to have a bucket of water and drown for it to force me out. 

No one I know understands how to fix this and disconnecting has not changed anything been 5 days now. Any advise.
