Piston powered with no power

What I expected to happen was:
The Piston would be not extended after the button press
What actually happened was:
The piston stayed extended after the button press with no signal around

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place A Sticky Piston 5 Blocks Above The Ground facing downwards with a redstone block on its face.
2. Place another sticky piston below the redstone block.
