/clear command in CommandBlock resets items attached to curser

If you have a CommandBlock (powered by a clock) with a /clear command, and even if the command fails, every time it tries to clear a certain item, the item that is currently attached to your curser will just disappear. That is really annoying cause you cannot put anything into your hotbar. Now I'm unable to work in creative because I have nothing to build with.
