Picking Up Axolotls in Buckets does not Keep the Same Variant

I was spawning a bunch of axolotls trying to get the rare one, and when I got it I picked it up in a bucket, but it spawned as yellow. I assumed maybe it would work if I went in survival, and it doesn't work in survival either. It's just always a random variant, and also it does not tame.
