Pointed Dripstone generates into lava lakes

So i started up a single biome minecraft world with the dripstone cave biome selected, so while exploring in spectator mode i stumbled upon this (see pic); The pointed dripstone generated above a lava lake and partially replaced lava source blocks. 

So thats pretty much it.
