Everything becomes pitch-black when in negative Y in the End.

What I expected to happen was...:
Nothing at all to happen.

What actually happened was...:
All sprites and text in-game (excluding the Sky) go pitch-black.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. To quickly get to the end, use 

/execute in minecraft:the_end run tp @p 0 100 0

2. in creative mode, fly to any location at or under y=-2.

   Every sprite becomes pitch black, including text. Only exception is the sky.

EDIT:
Using f5 mode can replicate this, but only if the camera itself is in the negative Y coordinate.
