I can't get out of minecarts or dismount out of saddles

I built a railway and got into a mine cart. It wouldn't let me get out unless I died. When I tried again it did the same thing. So I started a new game.  In my new game I put a saddle on a pig, mounted and now I can't get off.  I have no way to die so I am stuck.  I play on a key board and it keeps asking me to dismount using a controller.
