Cannot gain exp from mining ores

Have three friends on my server, the two of them can gain exp from mining ores such as coal, redstone, and diamonds. While for myself I cannot gain any exp from mining anything, but I get exp from everything else except mining such as smelting, trading, and etc. Any ideas?
