Pressing F1 after zooming in with the Spy Glass delays the lens animation

It's a bit hard to explain, but the steps to reproduce are as follows.
1. Press F1 to hide the HUD
2. Zoom in with the Spy Glass
3. While still zoomed in, press F1 again.

Result: The animation associated with zooming plays after it is supposed to.
