Block states not updating

The game is acting very glitchy but the most basic way to describe it is none of the blocks are changing states whenI attempt to directly interact with them. I can place blocks on dirt paths and they change to regular dirt blocks but I cant break hat dirt block. I cant use a hoe/shovel on grass blocks and even when I was in a village and I tried jumping on the crops and my own crops as well nothing happened. Whenever I try to break a block it goes through the whole breaking animation then just resets. When I stop trying to break it it stays as its current animation being broken until I try to break another block.

 

Update: While I am writing this I can no longer place blocks. When I try the block dissapears instantly. I can no longer interact with villagers and whenever I try to open a door only the top half opens.
