Water placed before slab

So I play on an SMP and I tried to make a simple security mechanism to stop mobs, and I don't think this is supposed to happen. When I have a "staircase" and I place a slab and have water in front, I can get through the slab if I spam jump. EDIT: it only works with an elytra on
