When you falling down with spyglass turned on u faling so slowly

I created a map for training on a new snapshot and I did this trick that I pushed a bucket of water into the air and after about two seconds I jumped down I grabbed the bucket and was alive because at the right moment I moved the water and in the next jump I had a telescope and when I threw the bucket of water it I jumped with the spyglass on and noticed that I was flying very slowly and that the bucket of water was stuck in the air and I was still flying, this only happens when I have spyglass on
