I can't place blocks or interact with items such as opening chests, and opening doors

Hi, so I just got Minecraft and loaded up my first world, but I can not place blocks or interact with items. It only allows me to break blocks, I can not open chests, open doors, or do anything else that involves right clicking. Please help I just got the game but I can't even play it.
