Observer clock runs twice as fast when pushed with piston

When a piston pushes an observer into a clock circuit, the clock runs (almost) twice as fast as an observer clock that you built by hand. This seems odd. This can easily be recreated by placing 2 observers facing each other , and another pair of which you can move one observer by a piston.
