In creative mode on minecraft PC edition a diamond sword cannot break blocks

I thought that when trying to break a block in creative mode with a diamonds sword the block would break
What actually happened was...:
Describe what happened here
The block did not break and acted such as bedrock

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place Block on ground of superflat world
2. Go into creative mode
3. Spawn in a Diamond Sword
4. Place a Grass Block On ground
5. Try to break grass block
