Crafting items causes the recipe book to render on top of the inventory and occasionally crashes the game

When crafting an item in a crafting table with the recipe book closed, the recipe book renders on top of the inventory when the item is completely crafted. This happens when shift clicking the item or when clicking and dragging the item. This has also crashed my game, citing a "Rendering Screen" error and a NullPointerException, see attached crash log
