Pistons dont push Lecterns

I was making a villager farm in minecraft. i was testing a piston trap with the lectern on the piston. and a pressure plate in front of where the lectern would be pushed. there was redstone under the block the pressure plate was on. I stepped on the pressure plate to test it but nothing happened. i destroyed the lectern and the piston went up. i thought it might have been how the redstone was placed so i changed the pistons location and it didnt work. I tried doing it with other blocks such as the composter and oak wood planks and they worked fine.
