Villagers continue to show what they give for the item in your hand even if it leaves your hand

Holding out an item that a villager wants and throwing it out of your hand or placing it in a lecturn, and presumably other methods, causes the villager to still show it's offers. This seems to not work however with cycling trades, e.g. holding an emerald out to a master librarian, they will cycle once and then stop showing their trades
