Entering the nether screen doesn't emmit traveling sound

Back in 1.2.5 there use to be a noise where if you travel through a nether portal and you see the "entering the nether screen" you would hear a noise. But as the updates passed, the noise stopped working. However it's still in the .Minecraft folder
