i cant break blocks/combat

so i am unable to break blocks (even in creative) and hurt mobs using a sword/axe (also even in creative) i can only use a bow/crossbow and a trident. this is not just a problem with realms, this also happens in singleplayer. [note this also happens in 1.16.1/1.16]
