Command Not Working On Server

I placed a command block at spawn with the command /op @p typed in, but nothing happened when my first visitor activated the pressure plate, and the output slot on the command block's menu isn't showing any error messages, so I have absolutely NO IDEA what's wrong! PLZ HELP ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
