"+6 damage" but acually a lot more

I have enchanted a diamond axe (sharpness 5), and in the inventory, it's written "+6 damage", actually the same as a normal one. However, I have tested on horses coming to me... 2 times to kill the left one with the enchanted, 4 to kill the other one with the normal axe.
