My skin and others do not show in vanilla minecraft.

Whenever I join any Vanilla Minecraft Game, whether single player or multiplayer, everyone is a Steve including myself. However, when i join modded servers or modded single player, my skin and others show up. Is there possibly a fix for this issue?
